Lose Championship in Overtime

The VFW Bantams will be attending the State VFW Tournament for the 3rd year in a row.  The Bantams hosted the 9th District playoffs and started out the tournament playing TRF.  #2 seeded Roseau took care of business by winning 5-0. Hanson Oleary and Aaron Huglen each scored twice and Hunter McFarlane scored once.  Oliver Lee shut the door in goal.  Game 2 was against the #3 seeded bantams from EGF.  The boys had split the season series.  The rubber match went to the boys from Roseau 5 to 2.  It was a very close contest, but the boys played with great intensity.  That win assured a trip to the state VFW Tournament to be held in Moorhead.  Hanson Oleary had the hat trick, Tal Haliday scored and Josh Olson put the icing on the cake with an empty netter.  That set up the Championship with the #1 seed from Moorhead.  Moorhead scored first, but Roseau answered on a goal from Oleary.  Moorhead took a 2-1 lead in the second but again Roseau answered with a goal from Huglen.  The 3rd period was tight with no scoring pushing the game to the extra session.  Unfortunately Moorhead was able to score in OT to become District champs.  The boys battled all game long.  The defenseman played superbly and Oliver Lee was a wall, stopping 37 shots.
